The Space Cadets - Lost On Earth EP

Here's the debut album of The Space Cadets, for me their best work. Ripped from vinyl at 320kbps with very good sound, hope you enjoy!!! The Space Cadets were one of the most inovative bands in the rockabilly genre from the mid to late 90's. They perfectly captured traditional rockabilly, neo-rockabilly, surf, ska and 1950's rock n' roll and wrapped it up in a crazy space theme.

The band features well known English rockabilly verterans Mouse Zinn on vocals(Red, Hot & Blue), Mark Harmon on guitar (Restless), Ricky Brawn on drums(the Big Six, Starlighters, Johnny Bach) and Anders Janes on upright bass. Laden with double entendres and space-isms, their songs are varied enough to appeal to a broad audience, yet keep their 50's authenticity.

Bernie Krause Gorillas in the Mix

This is a classic. Before digital sampling became the norm, Bernie Krause pioneered it all, with his environmental recordings, with hydrophone technology and technique, with his superb ear for pitch and timbre, and with his ideas for meshing their occurrence in natural and animal sounds with human-made music. Kids love this AND adults do too. Bernie Kraus's "Gorillia's in the Mix" may be saturated with "punny" names, but the sheer wonder occurs when you realize that EVERY SINGLE SOUND you hear is an ANIMAL--there are NO HUMAN SOUNDS or instruments on any of these remarkable cuts! My favorite (listed incompletely here) is "I'm In Trouble, Turkey Corwin" (to the tune of Paula Abdul's smash hit, "Straight Up" which came out a year before). A Parrot from the San Diego Zoo takes the vocals to the swishing tails of shrimp, the smacking lips of horses, the ruffling of turkey feathers and 30 other animal sounds! This is NOT one of those gimicky animal records like "Meowy Christmas by Jingle Cats". This is exotica taken to it's higest level - naturally. This was played at SeaWorld for years over the pa.

Frankie Laine - Gunfight At The O.K. Corral

Popular vocalist of the '40s and '50s who successfully straddled the line between Jazz vocalist, crooner and Western singer. After his initial success as crooner and Jazz vocalist in the mid-to-late '40s, Laine switched gears when he signed up with Columbia Records and began recording Country & Western Pop. Laine's husky baritone was a perfect match for tracks like 'Rawhide', 'Gunfight At The OK Corral', 'Sixteen Tons', 'High Noon' and other like-minded audio treats. While sales remained good in the States, his popularity increased in the UK and Europe, who adored his Easy Listening musical tales of the dusty roads of the Old West and the aching pains of a broken heart. Good stuff here y'all.

Sharp Five Paradise a Go Go//Four Nice Guys 2fer

Sharp Five are a mid-60's Japanese five-piece instrumental combo, started up after the Ventures' guitar instro-rock took that country by storm. Fronted by drummer Munetaka Inoue, these guys were apparently a big deal in their home country, and even (like the Ventures) had their own brand of guitar, the Guyatone Sharp Five model. It was their mention is a book on Japanese guitars that brought 'em to my attention, although it's taken nearly a decade to get a chance to actually hear what they sound like.

So what do they sound like? Well, if ya' likes the Ventures circa '65-66, this band is for you.

Billy Strange Strange Country

Born in the "backwoods" of Long Beach, California, Billy Strange had a completely different take on country picking. While Strange spent his formative years on the "hillbilly" circut, his musical arrangements for the likes of Dean Martin and Nancy Sinatra infused his instrumental music with a sound we could only start to describe as "lounge-a-billy" from a strange country. This album is a hidden treasure, from start to finish. It's acoustic instrumental music that is folky (but not overly so) with a definite lounge twist. Very unique, toe-tapping, finger-snapping music. Makes you want to drink a Manhattan while sitting on a horse. Hipsters in the mood for a change of pace can't go wrong here.
