Silencers- Cyclerific Sounds

If you’re a big fan of fuzz guitar instrumental music then Cyclerific Sounds is just what the doctor ordered. Detroit’s the Silencers specialise in the type of mean, down and dirty biker rock that made Davie Allan a big success in the ’60s. Right from the first track, “Mouldy’s Theme,” the fuzz throttle is opened up wide and it pretty much it stays that way throughout the album. It does, however, get switched off on a few tracks like the cleaner, “Ghost Riders In The Sky”-esque “Sonny’s Theme.” The Silencers also crank out a few covers as well, which include the always great “2000 LB Bee” and “Devil’s Angels Theme.” There are some good movie dialogue bits on the disc as well, with lots of talk about “the Man” and how he’s trying to keep the outlaw gangs down. Recorded in Detroit, at Ghetto Recorders by Mick Collins, the punchy sound of this disc is right on the money with an overall quality that is up there with the original ’60s stuff. (Total Energy)

The Knights – In Progression

The Knights have done the almost impossible. Amalgamated the old surf sound with prog rock. Sounds like this wouldn't work. It does. I'd say it leans more to the surf side, rather than proggy side, and you can feel the prog/metal vibe. They've also done a good job of covering the song Pipeline, and truly making it their own. The song is instantly recognizable as Pipeline, but this version is owned by The Knights. All instrumental, and all rockin'! A welcome addition to the collection.

S.P.E.C.T.R.E. - The Microfilm Album

Here's a band that faded out way too fast if your ask me. The band is S.P.E.C.T.R.E the disc is"The microflm album". I found this band back in the good ol' days of MP3.com I heard a copy of songs and ordered their cd soon after. I thought this band had plenty of potential to make some really good music down the road. Sadly that did not happen. The band hails from Denmark, their music ranges from such influences as John Barry, Lalo Schiffrin to heavy metal punch you in face groups as Entomed and Fatomas. Yeah --- this gets downright brutal at times. It is a short little record, but it will you wanting more and sadly there isn't.
be forewarned this is not for the faint at heart. B
